  • The Quaternary Soils & Sediments Laboratory in the department of Geography at UNI is equipped for all standard analyses performed with Quaternary soils and sediments.  The laboratory is equipped with two analytical balances, two centrifuges, a double-element Barnstead  distillery (8 L/hr flow rate),  Spectrophotometer, Meigi Petrographic microscope,  vacuum pump, and all instrumentation and supplies to perform the following analyses:
    • Particle Size Determination by Pipette
    Organic Matter determination (LOI and Walkley-Black)
    Carbonate content by Chittick apparatus
    pH
    Fe and Al extraction
    Heavy mineral separation by sedimentation or centrifugation
    Heavy Mineral mounting and analysis
    Soil thin-section analysis
